Social Ontology (2011-2013)

The new Centre for Social Ontology is based in the College of Humanities. Its central focus is the Morphogenetic Project.

The project’s main theoretical aim is to conceptualize a nascent but unique transformation of the social order towards ‘Morphogenesis Unbound’. The advent of a Morphogenetic Society will represent a novel social formation. Its dynamics require theorizing and its differences from the multiple forms of modernity need close specification.

The starting point entails a theoretical clarification of the morphogenetic process itself. Since the concept of morphogenesis originated in biology, EPFL – with its internationally recognized prominence in neurobiology – is the ideal venue from which to promote interdisciplinary conceptual advances.
